· Practice writing numbers and letters by putting salt in a cookie sheet with sides. Use your finger to write your name, letters and numbers.
· Write numbers or letters with chalk on your driveway for your child. When you call out a number or letter have them run to find it! Also can do this activity with colors, shapes or CVC words.
· Practice positional concepts- Make this a fun activity by using their body and a favorite toy! Ask your child to put the toy “on” their head, “behind” their backs, or “in front of” you. Another way to practice is with a small object and a cup or a bowl. Positional concepts- on, off, in, out, behind, in front, over, under, next to, beside, between, top, middle, bottom, first, last.
· Practice comparing sets- Use goldfish, dry cereal, other snacks, or small toys. Make 2 different piles and ask your child which pile has more or is greater? Which one has less? Make 3 piles and ask which 2 piles are the same. If that is easy for them, write the numbers down and ask the same questions without the visual of the snacks. Example: 7 2 (Which one is greater?)
